Hello! It’s me, Hugo! I’m a two-year-old Pit Bull mix, and boy do I have a story for you. I certainly was not living the good life. My owners were not properly caring for me, and I was malnourished. Enough was enough. On April 29th, some nice people from animal control came for me. The problem was they took me to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Other than finally getting fed, the shelter sure was no fun. I needed to get out, but I seemed to have three strikes against me: I was a black dog, I was a Pit Bull mix, and I was heartworm positive. By the end of May I was on the shelter’s death row.
When the folks at RADAR found out about my plight, they offered to cover my costly heartworm treatment to encourage a rescue to take me. My life was on the line. And just in the nick of time, on May 30th, the rescue Harley’s Haven in Pennsylvania agreed to take me! Hooray!! I got my heartworm treatment on June 25th. Thank goodness that’s done!
So what can I tell you about me? Well, I am really just a chunky, goofy love bug! I love to be around people, and getting petted is about the best thing in the world! I showed the camera lady, Susan Blakeney, how I could put my whole self in her lap and snuggle in close for maximum loving. I wanted to be friends with my roommate at the shelter, but she didn’t seem to care too much for me. Just one look from my roommate and I’d hide behind my igloo! Oh well, her loss! RADAR paid all of the costs for Hugo’s heartworm treatment, which totaled $368.
