Izzy is the last dog to get anyone in a tizzy. A very friendly and smiling girl, this seven-year-old Bully Breed mix turned up at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on November 26th. Her owner had Izzy since she was two years old but could no longer afford to keep her so she was surrendered to the shelter. Izzy was understandably a bit shy at first but soon showed off her winning personality. Izzy gained some needed weight in the shelter, but also needed assistance in another area that the shelter did not have the funds for: Izzy tested positive for heartworms. She waited a long time for rescue interest due to her breed and heartworm status.

Happily for Izzy, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania had a place for her if her heartworms could be treated. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, coordinated the effort to help Izzy and asked for RADAR’s help on April 8th. We agreed to provide a grant and Izzy finished her heartworm treatment on April 21st.

“Izzy is a playset all dressed up in a sleek black and white dog suit,” Susan said. “A dog with an athletic, solid build, she sports tall snazzy white socks, a white chest blaze and a skinny white racing stripe on her muzzle. Izzy knows how to play and have a great time! She had the best time just running around and lightly engaging with toys. Her favorite ‘toy’ was simply having a human nearby to say hello, give body rubs or make the squeaky toy squeak. Izzy has a zest for life and she will entertain herself while trying to get you in on the fun and bring a party to her forever home.” Be sure to view more photos in Izzy’s gallery.

RADAR paid all $290 of the heartworm treatment costs for Izzy.
