Jack hoped someone would have his back when he was brought to the Pulaski County Animal Shelter in Virginia on February 19th. A ten-year-old Shepherd-Red Heeler mix, Jack was surrendered along with his friend, a senior Chihuahua mix. A farmer said that the dogs had been abandoned on his property and that Jack had spent his entire life outside on a chain. Jack badly needed some veterinary care and dental treatment.

Sarah Dutton of Lost Fantasy Stables and Animal Rescue in Virginia, contacted RADAR on March 11th. Her rescue had pulled Jack’s friend from the shelter but couldn’t stop thinking about Jack (known as Chevy at the shelter). Was it possible for us to help with Jack’s medical costs? RADAR especially loves senior dogs, and we replied that we would help. Jack had his blood tests and dental treatment on April 9th.

Jack is house-trained, crate-trained, good on a leash and obedient. He is good with other dogs and cats. He appreciates adults and is considerate with older children. The rescue interviewed Jack and he had this to say: “Hi, y’all! I’m Jack and I am lookin’ for my furever home. I’ve spent my entire life at the end of a chain and I don’t want that kind of life anymore. I like to be outside, but I quickly learned how nice it is to be inside with my foster family. My foster mom says I’m easy peasy, low maintenance and totally laid back. She likes the way I keep an eye on her to make sure she’s happy and safe at all times. I like to be by her side. I’m workin’ on gaining some weight right now. I was quite skinny when I came to the rescue, but my foster mom and dad are gonna take care of that!” Be sure to view more photos in Jack’s gallery.

RADAR paid all $256 of the blood test and dental treatment costs for Jack.
