Presenting Jackie: the dog, the problem and the solution.

The dog. Jackie is a four-year-old, 60-pound Labrador Retriever mix who loves both dogs and people. He’s never met a stranger. Not only is he stunningly handsome, but he is just as happy as can be! He’s also very smart! To see more photos of Jackie, click here.

The problem. On July 12th, Jackie was surrendered by his owner to the Hampton County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Not only was Jackie at a small rural shelter with very limited rescue or adoption options, but he had the added double stigma of being a black dog and heartworm positive.

The Solution. On October 16th, Mary Lou Seymour of Shelter Animals Advocates and its Heart Beat Goes On program found a rescue for Jackie. However, in order for Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut to take him, help was needed for his heartworm treatment costs. Mary Lou reached out to RADAR and we provided an assistance grant. He had his heartworm treatment done on October 21st.

RADAR paid all of Jackie’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $357.
