Jacques is a French name for James. And the famous line goes, “Home, James!” But this Border Collie-Cattle Dog mix lost his home. His owners were separating and neither one could keep Jacques, so off to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina this four-year-old went on February 21st. Unfortunately, Jacques tested heartworm positive. On May 17th, his name was placed on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for May 24th.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for our help with Jacques on May 18th. To encourage a rescue to take him, we provided an offer to cover his heartworm treatment costs. The very next day, To Love a Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Jacques! He had his heartworm treatment done on May 23rd.
“Surely Jacques must have wondered what happened to his former home and why he ended up in a stressful shelter,” Susan said, “but Jacques did his best to put on a brave face and deal with his new reality. He was a little shy at first but soon became more and more social. He walked great on a leash and the staff described him as being very polite. His coat is a gorgeous blend of a lush white background with splashes of brown. Jacques will give unconditional love to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him.” To see more photos of Jacques, click here.
RADAR paid all $264 of the heartworm treatment costs for Jacques.
