Jagger is a happy tail wagger! A one to two-year-old Pit Bull mix, Jagger was picked up as a stray by animal control on February 26th. He was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Jagger faced two major challenges in finding a rescue or adopter: he was heartworm positive and a Pit Bull mix. On April 21st, Jagger’s name was placed on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for April 27th.
On April 22nd, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, made an urgent appeal for our help with Jagger. As an incentive for a rescue to take him, we provided an offer to cover his heartworm treatment costs. And just in the nick of time, the rescue Virginia Paws for Pits agreed to take Jagger! His heartworm treatment took place on May 17th.
“This friendly-faced fellow was having a tough time at the shelter,” Susan told us. “He had lost a lot of weight in the stressful shelter environment. I was lucky to have met him on my last visit to the shelter. He’s a super-sized love bug! He’s lovely with other dogs. He has such a happy, wagging-tailed approach to life!” Click here to view more photos of Jagger.
RADAR paid all of Jagger’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $269.
