Jake had heard that someone left a cake out in the rain. So, when he was a homeless and hungry stray, he kept a sharp eye out for the elusive cake, but never found a crumb. One to two years old and a 60-pound Pit Bull-Labrador Retriever mix, Jake is no cupcake! He arrived at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on May 1st. Jake’s chances of getting out of this rural shelter alive would be no cakewalk. Testing heartworm positive meant that he could not be adopted from the shelter. A rescue commitment would be have to first be baked in.
In response to an urgent appeal from Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program on May 5th, RADAR agreed to cover Jake’s costly heartworm treatment. Homeward Bound Animal Sanctuary in South Carolina was interested in taking Jake, but heartworm treatment funding was needed. With RADAR’s commitment to assist, Jake was safe! His heartworm treatment took place on May 13th.
Jake’s charm and appeal lie in his sweet and gentle nature, but he has an inner strength that supported him from his life as a stray to his success in being taken into a rescue. He would probably say “Piece of cake!” But we know he has earned the icing on that cake. He’s more on the quiet side, but once he gets to know you, he is all over you! Jake walks well on a leash, and he loves it when his petits fours take him someplace special! Click here to view more photos of Jake.
RADAR paid all of Jake’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $375.
