It was a case of make or break for Jake. Approximately six years old and a Pit Bull mix, Jake was a stray who was admitted to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on October 12th, where he was initially called Titan. It would be tough enough to find an adopter or rescue for this older guy with his Bully Breed mix, but testing heartworm positive created an even greater obstacle. It meant that he could not be adopted from the shelter. Only a rescue commitment could save him.
Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program was not about to apply the brakes in her quest to save Jake! On October 20th she began to network Jake to find a rescue. When the Shelter Animals Advocates (SAA) expressed interest in taking Jake on October 24th if his heartworm treatment costs were covered, Mary Lou wasted no time in asking for RADAR’s help. We agreed to assist, and Jake was safe! His heartworm treatment took place on November 4th.
December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with The Heart Beat Goes On, had this to tell us about Jake: “He is a gorgeous dog; his coat is to die for! He has excellent kennel manners. With all the puppy gone from him, he is just a nice, calm dog. He does well on a leash. I honestly do not know how someone did not tear up the county looking for him. Jake is just such a beauty!” Click here to view more photos of Jake.
RADAR paid $300 towards Jake’s heartworm treatment costs.
