“Home, James!” And a home is exactly what this James wants! A 10-year-old Beagle mix, James arrived at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on February 18th as a stray. He was initially named Little at the shelter. Poor James didn’t have much of a chance making it out of this high-kill shelter, especially being a senior dog, testing positive for heartworms, and the shelter overflowing with dogs.
On March 4th, Tanya Wildman with RescueConnect Animal Rescue in North Carolina contacted RADAR about James. If we would help with his heartworm treatment costs, the rescue would commit to pulling him. We agreed to assist and James was safely out of the shelter on March 6th. “He is a sweet old man,” Tanya told us later that day. “He’s a very happy boy, who’s laid back and wants to be near you. I already took him to the vet today because he has the heartworm cough. The vet thinks he has grade 3 heartworms, with a bit of fluid in his lungs. So the plan will be the split-treatment protocol.”
James had his heartworm treatments on May 7th and June 7th. “He would love to find a home to rest his head and lay in the sun,” Tanya said. “He would love to play with stuffed animals and sleep! Thank you for helping save this old man from the shelter; he so deserves it.” He is described as your typical Beagle who is friendly, loves other dogs, very food motivated and can AAAHROO with the best of them! RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for James, which totaled $289.
