Joe is no average Joe! This three-year old handsome Hound was one of 17 Hounds seized in a cruelty case and taken to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on September 8th. Joe was one of four of the Hounds to test heartworm positive. He was also very thin and had significant hair loss. In less than a week, amazingly enough, 11 of the Hounds were adopted or rescued. But it was a no-go for Joe.
Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County requested our assistance for Joe. On September 14th we provided an offer to help with Joe’s heartworm treatment costs to encourage a rescue to take him. On September 21st Love Mutts Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Joe! The next day he had his initial vetting and neutering done, and began his medications to treat his heartworms.
The rescue shared this with us: “Joe has come a long way since arriving at the rescue. He starts the day by giving us a happy, Hound howl. Then it’s outside for a walk and playtime with Copper and Blackberry (his friends who came from the same neglect case). Joe is one of the happiest dogs we have ever met. He is thrilled to get two meals everyday and talks to us while we prepare his food! Joe is friendly with other dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and horses. He loves children. He continues to gain weight and his coat is filling in nicely. He is a very loving boy, who appreciates a soft bed, a gentle hand and treats!” Click here to view more photos of Joe.
RADAR paid all of Joe’s initial vetting, neutering and heartworm treatment medication costs, which totaled $248.
