Joey

Remember Matt LeBlanc as Joey on Friends? Well this Joey is a mutt de jour who wants to be your best friend! Joey is a three to four-year-old mini Labrador Retriever-Feist mix. He arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on October 18th. Joey was waiting a long time at the shelter, and a wait made all the more life threatening because of being at an overcrowded, high-kill shelter. His chances of getting pulled by a rescue were reduced due to his heartworm positive status. He was posted on the euthanasia list for the week of January 14th.

Just in the nick of time, and thanks to the efforts of the volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society, a rescue was found for Joey! Caring for Creatures in Virginia agreed to take Joey if his initial vetting bill and heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, asked for our assistance, and we agreed.

On January 15th, Joey had his initial vetting and neutering done. When Joey went for his heartworm treatment on January 31st, he tested negative! His original test had given a false positive result. Not only did that save Joey the treatment, but it saved RADAR approximately $200! And with that good news, Joey will be on his way on one of the February transports to Caring for Creatures.

Susan had this to share with us about Joey, “He is fun and lively, even a bit puppy-like. Joey is sweet and affectionate, and a real lap denizen!” To view more photos of Joey (taken by Susan), click here.

RADAR paid Joey’s $57 initial vetting and neutering bill.
