Beethoven had his Ode to Joy, but we’ve got our Ode to Joey! This nine-month-old Lab (and perhaps Great Dane) mix arrived as a stray at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on May 10th. Who would have thought that an adorable dog like Joey (just look at those eyes!) would not get adopted or taken by a rescue? Joey ended up on the euthanasia list in late May.

Through the efforts of the Mercer County Volunteers, Joey’s urgent status was shared. On May 29th, RADAR provided an assistance offer as an incentive for a rescue to take Joey. On May 31st, the rescue group WV Pet in West Virginia agreed to take Joey!

By June 2nd, Joey was already safely in his new foster home. He had his initial vetting and neutering done on June 20th.  He tested heartworm negative. Sheri Sanders with WV Pet told us this: “We wouldn’t be able to do this without wonderful organizations like RADAR!” To see more photos of Joey, click here.

RADAR paid all of Joey’s initial vetting and neutering costs of $124.

UPDATE! All funds for Joey have been raised! Thank you!
