It was three days before Christmas when Joey ended up in the shelter. While many folks were busy singing Joy to the World, a few others were busy trying to save this dog so that there would still be Joey in the World. A one-year-old Carolina Dog mix, Joey arrived as a stray on December 22nd at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Sadly, Joey tested heartworm positive. This meant his only hope of getting out of the shelter alive was with a rescue commitment.

Despite the hectic holiday season, Mary Lou Seymour with The Heart Beat Goes On program relentlessly networked Joey to try to find a rescue before it was too late. With Joey’s status direly urgent, on December 30th, Mary Lou managed to find a rescue interested in Joey. There was just one catch: help was needed for his heartworm treatment costs. Mary Lou wasted no time in contacting RADAR. We immediately agreed to assist, and the same day the deal was sealed for Long Road Home Rescue in New York to take Joey!

Joey’s heartworm treatment took place on January 6th. We were told this about Joey: “He’s more on the active side. He sure was very happy to get out of his kennel! Joey is a happy-go-lucky dog who has a beautiful coat. Once you touch his coat you won’t want to stop!” To see more photos of Joey, click here.

RADAR paid $250 towards Joey’s heartworm treatment costs.
