This little two-year old Chihuahua mix ended up as a stray at the Rocky Mount Animal Shelter in Nash County, North Carolina in early November. Although it was obvious that Joshua had been someone’s pet, no one came for him. Despite efforts to get him out of this high-kill shelter, no rescue or adopter came forward.
It was November 8th, and Joshua’s time was up. Julie Braswell of Parker’s PAWS rescue in North Carolina could not allow this dog to die, so with only minutes to spare, she pulled him for her rescue. Only after getting him safely out of the shelter did Julie realize what a handsome and loving guy Joshua is. But she also discovered that he was covered in fleas! Joshua went to the vet the next day to start treatment for his flea infestation.
Joshua’s back legs sometimes go out on him when he walks. He might have been hit by a car earlier in his life, and he just didn’t heal properly. Not that this slows him down! Julie says that he can run and play like all the other dogs, although he does need to take a few extra breaks. Joshua is happily in a foster home, and his foster mom says, “His eyes just melt your heart!” Click here to see more photos of Joshua.
Parker’s PAWS (Parker’s Animal Welfare Society), which is named after Parker (a RADAR-assisted dog who crossed the Rainbow Bridge), had no funds to cover Joshua’s flea infection treatment, or his initial vetting and neutering done on November 20th.
RADAR covered all of Joshua’s vet bills, which totaled $206.
