Hello, my name is Kagney! I’d like to tell you a little bit about my life. I’m a one and a half-year-old Shepherd mix who was surrendered to the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County in South Carolina on May 17th. My previous owners had me, my sister Kirby and my brother Kizer, since we were all very little. We didn’t get to be inside with our owners, and none of us had much in the way of health care or socialization. When we came to the shelter, we found out that being siblings wasn’t the only thing we had in common – we were also heartworm positive.

Just when I thought that there might be no hope for me finding a forever home after all this, I found out that there were people who still cared about me! On May 22nd, Ruthie Rish with MAMAS asked a group called RADAR if they could assist with the cost of my heartworm treatment so that I could go to rescue with Blue Chip Animal Sanctuary. RADAR offered to pay for me to get my treatment, and I got it on May 29th! My brother and sister went to another rescue.

It’s possible that my last owners first kept me because I was a cute puppy, but didn’t really know what to do with me when I got older. I may not have a lot of life experience given my previous home life, but I know that I’d be a great companion to anyone who shows me the same kindness and love that I’d give them. And I might not be a puppy anymore, but I assure you, I’m just as sweet now as I was back then! To see more photos of me, click here!

RADAR paid all of $210 the heartworm treatment costs for Kagney.
