Katie’s case was compelling, and these phrases from her shelter listing say it all: “Unwanted, owner turn-in. 10 years old. Very scared.” This Whippet mix was surrendered to the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on April 26th. Time was not on her side. Katie needed an adopter or a rescue commitment by May 13th to avoid being euthanized on May 14th.
The good folks with the Mercer County Volunteers shared Katie’s plight. On May 4th RADAR provided an offer to assist as an incentive for a rescue to take Katie. But the days kept slipping away. Then, in the nick of time, Paws for Seniors in Virginia agreed to take Katie! May 14th went from being an execution date to an emancipation date as Katie left the shelter bound for Paws for Seniors.
On May 24th, Katie had her initial vetting and spaying done. She tested heartworm negative. Jim and Brenda Scamordella of Paws for Seniors, added the following twist to Katie’s story. Unknown to RADAR at the time, Katie’s eight-year-old daughter, Daisy, was also surrendered with Katie. When Paws for Seniors decided to take Katie, they just had to take Daisy as well. And thank goodness they did! To see more photos of Katie, click here.
RADAR paid all of Katie’s $175 initial vetting and spaying bill.
