When Kenny arrived at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina as a stray on March 10th, he had a black eye. But it didn’t show, because he’s a black dog. What did show was evidence of a dog fight in his swollen left eye and bite wounds to his muzzle. Kenny is a Labrador Retriever-Chow Chow mix, who is two to three years old. He was responding nicely to treatment when on March 17th he tested positive for heartworms. Kenny kvetched, “When it rains, it pours.”

Kenny had come this far and would go no further unless a rescue stepped up to pull him, treat him, foster him and find him his forever home. Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program is the tough one who gets going when the going gets tough. By March 25th Mary Lou had found a rescue that was interested in Kenny but only if his medical expenses were covered. Mary Lou asked RADAR for help and we agreed to assist with his heartworm treatment. Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut committed to taking Kenny on March 27th, and he had his heartworm treatment on April 1st.

Kenny is a strong affectionate dog who loves to have his head scratched. A touch shy at first, he will hide his head in your lap and as he warms up, he works up to licking your chin. Kenny still does not feel safe with other dogs, and backs off until he sees that they are truly friendly. Click here to view more photos of Kenny.

RADAR paid $250 towards Kenny’s heartworm treatment costs.
