Despite her beauty inside and out, two-year-old Kiki ended up on the urgent list at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. A sleek and sweet Bully Breed mix love bug, Kiki was surrendered by her owner along with her two puppies on December 16th, due to no longer being able to have pets. Kiki’s puppies were adopted quickly but Kiki’s heartworm positive and black color (less likely to be adopted) kept her in the shelter, waiting for a rescue.
Finally, a nibble from To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania made its way to Susan Blakeney. Susan, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, let RADAR know Kiki had an interested rescue on January 29th. Her heartworms would need to be treated first, so we were asked to fund the costly treatment. We agreed, and Kiki finished her heartworm treatment on February 4th.
Susan says that Kiki was a fabulous mom to her two puppies and now Kiki is ready to retire from motherhood and have someone take good care of her. Her former owner said she was good with other dogs, cats and kids. “Kiki says it’s time to kick back and relax in a loving home of her own,” Susan told us. “She has met many other dogs at the shelter and been friendly and social with one and all. Kiki has a tail that doesn’t stop wagging. If you are looking for a wonderful dog who would be a nice buddy to your resident dog, Kiki fits the bill nicely. Give this loving former mama a chance, she’s ready to find her own home which will give her all the love she deserves!” Be sure to view more photos in Kiki’s gallery.
RADAR paid all $255 of the heartworm treatment costs for Kiki.
