Kirby is a delightful mix of Basset Hound and Golden Retriever, which makes him either a Basset Retriever or a Golden Hound! This four-year-old sweet and friendly dog was taken to the Rowan County Animal Shelter in Kentucky after being picked up as a stray on September 13th. He might be a sibling to Kino, who arrived as a stray at the shelter on September 12th.
Our dedicated partners at STAR (Saving The Animals of Rowan) found a rescue to take both Kirby and Kino! But then both dogs tested positive for heartworm, and will need heartworm treatment before going to their new rescue. For more photos of Kirby, click here.
With overwhelming vet bills recently, STAR has been financially stressed to the limit. So RADAR has offered to assist with both Kirby and Kino.
RADAR agreed to cover the neutering costs for both dogs, which was done the last week of September as part of STAR’s partnership with the Morehead State University Veterinary Technician Program (MSU-VTP). Kirby’s neutering cost was $70.
Heartworm treatment is expected to be approximately $200 for each dog. RADAR offered a matching challenge: if STAR’s donors raised $100 for each dog, RADAR would cover the other $100. Kirby’s match was met almost immediately!
RADAR has committed to covering Kirby’s neutering cost of $70 and $100 towards his heartworm treatment.
