Say “Hiya!” to Kya! This three year old is a combination of Labrador Retriever and Boxer, with some other Bully Breed mixes thrown in for good measure. Kya was found as a stray on September 8th and taken to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Testing positive for heartworms put Kya’s life at grave risk at this rural shelter. Her only way out alive would be with a rescue commitment.

Mary Lou Seymour and the The Heart Beat Goes On program specializes in saving the otherwise doomed dogs who are heartworm positive at this shelter. On September 21st, Mary Lou began her efforts to find a rescue for Kya. On October 4th, Purr-fect Match Animal Rescue in Wisconsin expressed interest in Kya. The only obstacle remaining was funding for Kya’s heartworm treatment costs. Mary Lou asked for RADAR’s help, and we agreed!

On November 1st, Kya had her heartworm treatment done. December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with The Heart Beat Goes On, shared this with us about Kya: “She is a friendly, happy-go-lucky dog. She has no dog issues. Her fur is so soft. She’s a bit submissive and timid, but so very sweet!” Click here to view more photos of Kya.

RADAR paid $300 towards Kya’s heartworm treatment costs.
