Lacey

My name is Lacey, and do I have a story to tell you! I’m a Shepherd mix somewhere between one and two years old. With my family of six eight-week-old pups in tow, I arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on May 15th as a stray. I have to admit, it was a little scary at first. I wasn’t sure about the whole thing, and most of the time I just tried to keep to myself. But after a while, I worked up the nerve to leave my kennel to explore. Turns out it wasn’t so bad after all, and everyone at the shelter was very proud of me! I got some bad news though. I was heartworm positive.

Unknown to me at the time, many folks were trying to find a rescue for all of my pups and me. When Every Dog’s Dream Rescue in New York stepped up to take all of us, the only obstacle was the cost of my heartworm treatment. Susan Blakeney with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue had a solution. She asked for help from a group called RADAR, and they agreed to help! My family and I were now all safe! My pups went on to the rescue to find their forever homes, while I got to stay in a foster home until I recovered from my heartworm treatment, which was on July 10th.

I’ve been described as a lovely girl. I’m very meek and submissive in my approach to other dogs and, yes, humans as well. But without a doubt, I’m one of the sweetest dogs! Since I’m a wee bit head shy, I am at my best with slow moving, calm and patient humans and other dogs. To see more photos of me, click here.

RADAR paid all $238 of the heartworm treatment costs for Lacey.
