You could train this dog with Bob Dylan lyrics: “Lay, Lady, lay” and “Stay, Lady, stay!” This approximately seven-year-old Boxer arrived as a stray at the Wilson County Animal Control shelter in North Carolina on September 6th. Lady was not in the best condition. She was underweight, loaded with fleas, and was a bit wobbly and stiff with her walking. If her life was going to be spared, she needed to get out of the shelter, and fast.

The next day, September 7th, RADAR provided an assistance offer for Lady (known as Geraldine in the shelter) as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On September 9th, someone offered to foster Lady. The only missing piece of the puzzle was a rescue. And on September 10th, the Carolina Boxer Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Lady! She had her freedom walk out of the shelter on September 11th.

Lady had her initial vetting done on September 13th. When we called to make our payment, the vet filled us in about Lady and her condition. The vet estimated that Lady was at least seven years old. At 45 pounds, the vet thought that Lady was about 15 pounds underweight. Most likely, Lady was a discarded breeding Boxer, and had probably spent most of her life crated or kenneled, which contributed to her walking being wobbly and stiff. Lady was loaded with intestinal parasites, for which she was treated. She also received a much-needed flea bath. Unfortunately, Lady tested positive for heartworm, but exhibited no symptoms. RADAR paid all $177 of Lady’s initial vetting and treatment costs.

UPDATE! All funds for Lady have been raised! Thank you!

UPDATE! Lady has been adopted by her foster family! Her Mom told us, “Lady is a wonderful dog! So wonderful that we couldn’t begin to think of parting with her. She is now best friends with our lab and chihuahua. Thanks for all of RADAR’s help with her initial vet costs.”
