“That’s no way to treat a Lady!” This poor black Labrador Retriever was bred many times and neglected by her “owners” before she was abandoned and taken as a stray to the Columbus County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on May 21st. After one of her pregnancies, Lady suffered a ruptured teat and at some point had an eye injury that was never treated. And on top of that, Lady was (of course) positive for heartworms. Despite the poor care she had during her first three or four years, Lady is very sweet and loving.
On June 2nd, Karen Steers of Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina, approached RADAR for a grant to help cover Lady’s heartworm treatment. We agreed right away, and Lady was taken in by a foster family who would help her recover from the treatment she received on July 12th and 13th.
Lady’s foster reports: “Lady is a calm, sweet and friendly girl who wants to be loved. She gets along with her foster brothers but is not super playful. She takes treats gently, is housebroken and is fine to quietly sleep in the house day or night.” Sounds like she is truly a Lady who deserves some royal treatment for the rest of her days! RADAR paid all of Lady’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $192.
