Former First Lady Claudia Alta Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson once said this: “The way you overcome shyness is to become so wrapped up in something that you forget to be afraid.” This Lady, a Lab mix somewhere between two and three years old, was a little shy when she first arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on May 30th. She and another dog named Big Red were surrendered by their previous owner, who said they weren’t home enough to take care of them. While Lady had some success in overcoming her shyness at the shelter, she was facing a bigger problem. She was heartworm positive.
On August 3rd, To Love a Canine Rescue in Southeast Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Lady; however, the rescue could only do so if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, immediately sought our help and we agreed! She received her heartworm treatment on August 14th.
The shelter had this to say about Lady: “She loves to give kisses and has great aim! She loves to be around people and to have her ears scratched. She’s very polite when meeting new people and other animals. She is sweet and walks well on a leash. She’s eager to please and looking for love!” To see more photos of Lady, click here.
RADAR paid all $388 of the heartworm treatment costs for Lady.
