To paraphrase William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Though she may be but Lil Red, she is fiercely cute!” A three-year-old Shepherd mix, this adorable girl ended up at the Greenwood County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on February 15th. She had a microchip, but no one ever came to claim her. Unfortunately, Lil Red had a lil problem: she was heartworm positive.
Mary Lou Seymour of Shelter Animals Advocates and its HeartBeat Goes On program started the search for a rescue to take Lil Red, and found that Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut was interested in taking her, provided that her heartworm treatment was taken care of. So when Mary Lou reached out to us on March 5th, we agreed to assist, and she got her heartworm treatment just five days later on March 10th!
We learned from December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with Shelter Animals Advocates that Lil Red is “a joy to hang out with.” She walks great on a leash, and she is good with other dogs. And though Lil Red had a few struggles to get through, all’s well that ends well, as the Bard might put it! Click here to view more photos of Lil Red.
RADAR paid all $358 of the heartworm treatment costs for Lil Red.
