Little Red Riding Hood

Who could resist helping Little Red Riding Hood get her fairy-tale ending! On September 29th, this one-year-old Dachshund-Beagle mix arrived as a stray at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. She was rather petite, weighing in at about 15 pounds. On October 29th, test results showed that Little Red Riding Hood was heartworm positive. Hopefully, Little Red Riding Hood would have an easier time than her storybook counterpart!

On the same day that Little Red Riding Hood’s test results came in, Crate Escape, a small family-run rescue in New York, expressed interest in taking her. Crate Escape specializes in rescuing dogs from North Carolina who are in need of medical treatment and forever homes. However, they needed help with her heartworm treatment costs in order to pull her. RADAR agreed immediately and Little Red Riding Hood was safely out of the shelter on October 30th. She received her initial vetting and spaying on November 4th. Her heartworm treatments followed on November 5th and 6th.

We were told this about Little Red Riding Hood: “She would be a perfect companion dog. She is crate trained, walks well on a leash, and is good with dogs and kids. She is a sweetie! She’s playful but gentle. A little shy at first, but she warms up quickly. Like any Beagle she loves going for walks and putting that nose to the ground for a good sniff. She’s a small girl, but she can definitely keep up with the big dogs!” Click here to see more photos of Little Red Riding Hood.

RADAR paid all $278 of Little Red Riding Hood’s spaying and heartworm treatment costs.
