Believe it or not, August 13th was Lucky’s lucky day. This five-year-old Hound-Labrador Retriever mix arrived at the Blount County Animal Center in Tennessee as an owner surrender. Her owner said that Lucky had been her son’s dog and she didn’t want the dog anymore. So what is lucky about this sad betrayal? Well, Lucky had not received the best of care in her former home. She tested heartworm positive. And being heartworm positive discourages adopters and rescues due to the high cost of treating heartworms. So would Lucky find some good luck?
On August 16th, Kristin Baksa, the shelter’s rescue coordinator, wanted to turn Lucky’s fortunes around. She contacted RADAR, asking for assistance with the cost of her heartworm treatment. We replied that we would help Lucky. She received her heartworm treatments on August 27th and 28th.
“Lucky is an energetic, friendly little girl,” Kristin told us, “who is good with other dogs, and a nice size. The combination of her heartworms having been treated and her small size now makes her very adoptable. She would love a home with kids to play with.” To see more photos of Lucky, click here.
RADAR paid all $298 of the heartworm treatment costs for Lucky.
