It was an all-too-common RADAR rescue request received on July 25th: “Lukato is a two to three-year-old Yellow Lab. He is heartworm positive. No one will take him. He is on the euthanasia list. We want to pull him, but we do not have the funds for his heartworm treatment.” Of course, we agreed to help and Lukato was safe!

Lukato had arrived at the Horry County Animal Care Center in South Carolina as a stray on July 13th. When the New England Lab Rescue in Maine reached out to us for help, they told us this: The shelter tells us that Lukato is a wonderful dog. He is on the euthanasia list because he has been there for the maximum time they can keep him, and no one else has stepped up for him. We know we can find him a great New England home.”

On August 1st, Lukato received his heartworm treatment. The rescue told us this about Lukato: “He is very sweet. He likes people and other dogs, plus he doesn’t seem to mind cats either. He walks great on a leash. He is just the most loving dog, and to think he would have been put to death because of his heartworms is so sad, but thankfully, he will live a normal and wonderful life. We tremendously thank RADAR for stepping up to help us help him.” To see more photos of Lukato, click here.

RADAR paid $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Lukato.
