Luna, a three-year-old Husky-Labrador Retriever mix, arrived at the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County in South Carolina on April 8th. A timid stray, she was trapped by law enforcement. Who could blame her if she might have howled at Luna, the Roman moon goddess, to express her loneliness? She looked as though she had recently had puppies and one of them may have arrived at the shelter with her, but no one is certain if Luna is the puppy’s mom. When the shelter checked her heartworm status, she turned out to be positive, hurting her chances for adoption or rescue.
Ruthie Rish with MAMAS asked RADAR if we could help with Luna’s heartworm treatment on April 27th. A rescue, Lighthouse Animal Shelter in Massachusetts, wanted to find Luna a forever home, if she could be treated for the heartworms first. We agreed to help, and on April 30th, Luna finished her heartworm treatment.
“Luna is a very gentle soul,” Ruthie told us. “She’s a bit shy, but sweet and calm. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She will be a great friend and companion. Luna has had a tough time but the rest of her life will be much better!” Click here to view more photos of Luna.
RADAR paid all of Luna’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $180.
UPDATE! Luna’s rescue let us know that she is in a foster-to-adopt home… once Luna tests heartworm negative, she will officially be adopted!
UPDATE! All funds for Luna have been raised! Thank you!
