Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a Macie from Mercer! Approximately one year old, this Hound mix arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on July 23rd. According to the shelter, she was a citizen turn in. As just another Hound dog in this crowded rural shelter, Macie faced some long odds of getting out alive. Starting on the 11th day after intake, dogs at this shelter are subject to being euthanized at any time. With no adopter or rescue interest, Macie was placed on the euthanasia list for August 22nd.
On August 21st, Sherry Hutchison, RADAR’s liaison with the shelter, asked us to help with Macie. We immediately provided an offer to assist with Macie’s vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On August 22nd, S.A.F.E. (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) in West Virginia agreed to take Macie! She safely left the shelter on August 29th. Macie had her initial vetting and spaying done on September 8th.
Tina Underwood with S.A.F.E. told us this about Macie: “Her condition is good. At the shelter she was kenneled with another dog and appeared friendly. She also did fine with another dog during her transport. Macie has no visible signs of excessive fear, aggression or skittish behaviors. Her energy level is medium and her temperament appears calm. She also seems to be okay with cats.” Click here to view more photos of Macie.
RADAR paid all $140 of Macie’s initial vetting and spaying costs.
