Forget “Knick-knack paddy whack, give the dog a bone.” Now it’s “Kick back and pick Mack, give this dog a home!” Mack is a two-year-old Australian Shepherd-Golden Retriever mix. On January 14th, Mack’s owner surrendered him to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Much to the shock and dismay of the shelter staff, Mack arrived in the trunk of the owner’s car! In this case, it would seem that the shelter was probably an improvement for Mack.
As appealing as Mack was for a rescue to take, testing positive for heartworm meant no takers. The volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society finally succeeded in finding a rescue for Mack. The Annapolis Dog Rescue in Maryland agreed to take Mack, but only if his heartworm treatment costs could be covered.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, requested our assistance, and we committed to cover Mack’s heartworm treatment costs. Mack’s heartworm treatment took place on February 7th. He will be headed to the Annapolis Dog Rescue before the end of February.
Susan shared this with us about Mack, “To say Mack is glorious and spectacular does not quite capture how really lovely he is! He’s friendly, engaging and terrific with other dogs.” To view more photos of Mack (taken by Susan), click here.
RADAR has paid all of Mack’s $240 heartworm treatment bill.
UPDATE! Mack has been adopted!
