If a rescue hadn’t taken Maegan she would have been left forsaken! On October 7th animal control brought this stray Boxer mix to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Two-year-old Maegan had the misfortune to test heartworm positive. With no adopter or rescue interest, on December 3rd Maegan’s name was placed on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for December 9th.
RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, wasted no time in seeking our help for Maegan. On December 3rd Susan made her request and we provided an offer to cover Maegan’s heartwrom treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On December 9th TreeTops Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Maegan! She received her heartworm treatment on December 15th.
This entry from Maegan’s shelter diary was shared with us: “I just get so excited when I meet new people and I want to let them know how awesome I think they are! I wasn’t too fond of the crazy things that lady kept putting on my head, but I dealt with it for a while since it seemed pretty important as she took my pictures. I got to meet some things called cats while I was out of my kennel and they are alright. They aren’t very interesting, so I ignored them. I really just wanted to play with the puppy they had running around, but I was told not to, so I went back to my kennel. I’m just ready for my next adventure out, maybe next time I won’t have to go back to this little kennel!” Click here to view more photos of Maegan.
RADAR paid all of Maegan’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $226.
