Maple

It’s a dog, it’s a tree, it’s Maple! Without going out on a limb, we wood tell you that this dog is as sweet as maple syrup, and has a bark just as nice as the tree! Maple is a two to three-year-old Border Collie mix who arrived as a stray on August 27th at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Maple was very stressed to be at the shelter, and initially did not want to leave her kennel. Little did she realize just how at risk she was since she was heartworm positive. It was going to take some team effort to save Maple.

Through the diligent efforts of the volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society, a rescue was found for Maple! While All 4 Paws Rescue in Pennsylvania wanted to take Maple, they could not afford her heartworm treatment costs. On September 20th, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, Susan Blakeney, asked for our assistance. We immediately agreed, and Maple’s safe passage was secured.

Maple’s heartworm treatment has now been completed. Susan shared this with us about Maple: “After initially being so understandably frightened and stressed at the shelter, as the weeks passed she gradually became more relaxed and comfortable. When volunteers would approach Maple’s kennel, her tail would keep up a steady swishing, showing how much she enjoyed some one-on-one attention!” Click here to view more photos of Maple.

RADAR paid all of Maple’s heartworm treatment costs of $229.
