“After all is said and done, there is really only one, and Margie, Margie it’s you!” “Margie” was a popular song in 1920, and revived by Ray Charles in 1961. The lyrics seem appropriate for our Margie! This Margie is a three-year-old Hound mix who arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on July 2nd. Margie is a great dog, but because she was heartworm positive, rescues passed her by. With no takers, Margie found herself on the shelter’s PTS (Put To Sleep) list for the week of August 12th.
Thanks to the urgent efforts of the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, a potential rescue was found for Margie. Caring for Creatures in Virginia would take Margie if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. On August 12th, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, Susan Blakeney, asked us to assist. We agreed at once, and Margie was safe!
On August 27th, Margie received her heartworm treatment, and on September 7th she was transported to Caring for Creatures, where she quickly charmed the staff! Susan had this to tell us about Margie: “She has a sweet, gentle and most unflappable disposition. Margie is very comfortable around other dogs, and takes everything in stride. She’s a quiet and loving companion.” Click here to view more photos of Margie.
RADAR paid all of Margie’s heartworm treatment costs of $244.
