Welcome back to the 1980s as we introduce our own Super Mario Brothers, Mario and Luigi! Both dogs are approximately three-year-old Rottweiler mixes, and probably brothers. They were both owner surrenders as part of a court case. They arrived at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on April 29th. When both Mario and Luigi tested heartworm positive, it meant that they could not be adopted, but each would need a rescue commitment to leave the shelter alive.
It was game on for Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program. On May 10th she began reaching out to rescues regarding Mario and Luigi. On May 19th, Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut offered to take Mario and Luigi if their heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Mary Lou requested RADAR’s help and we agreed to seal the deal for Mario and Luigi!
Mario received his heartworm treatment on June 1st. December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with The Heart Beat Goes On, told us this about Mario: “He’s very nice. He’s friendly with other dogs. He had no issues with our trainer. Mario is relaxed and gentle. He just wants to be with people!” To view more photos of Mario, click here.
RADAR paid $300 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Mario.
UPDATE! All funds for Mario have been raised! Thank you!
