Matilda is RADAR’s 300th dog! Rather than dancing for joy, how about waltzing Matilda! This approximately two-year-old Australian Cattle Dog arrived as a stray at the Columbus County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on August 3rd. Like so many shelter dogs, we don’t know Matilda’s story. Her emaciated condition would indicate that she had been neglected. In a high-kill shelter, her story was going to end all too soon unless someone acted quickly to help her.

On Tuesday, August 6th, All Breed Animal Rescue of the Carolinas contacted RADAR to see if we could assist with Matilda so that they could take her. Within twenty minutes we committed to assist, and Matilda was safe! She had her initial vetting done on Friday, August 9th. On Saturday, she went to her new foster home. Sadly, Matilda became increasingly ill over the weekend. She was taken back to the vet on Monday, where she was diagnosed with parvovirus. Matilda remained hospitalized until Wednesday. The wonderful news is that she is now doing very well, and is thriving in her foster home. To view more photos of Matilda, click here.

Not only is Matilda our 300th dog, but she is also part of a triple coincidence. The Columbus County Animal Shelter doesn’t name their dogs, so the dogs merely go by their kennel numbers. Matilda was known as Kennel 18, or K18 at the shelter. In February, RADAR-assisted Glory from this shelter, and she too was known as K18. All Breed Animal Rescue of the Carolinas also took a dog, Shelley, from this shelter, also in February. And, Shelley was also known as K18! What are the odds?

RADAR paid $200 towards Matilda’s veterinary care costs.
