Max really wanted some pax (peace) and quiet, as he was overwhelmed at the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. His owner, who was very ill and undergoing cancer treatment, brought this approximately seven-year-old Collie-Samoyed mix to the shelter on August 19th. Max was friendly and tested well with both cats and dogs at the shelter. However, his age and heartworm positive status made him unlikely to find a new home.
RADAR’s liaison at the Lee County Animal Shelter contacted us on August 28th… A New Chance Animal Rescue in New York was interested in helping Max, but needed help with his heartworm treatment costs. Could we help with Max’s treatment costs? If so, they would take him. We agreed to assist, and Max began his heartworm treatment on September 18th.
Max is now with a caring foster in New York where he is getting “spoiled rotten.” Unfortunately, he had encountered some other health issues besides being heartworm positive. He became anemic and had to spend time in intensive care. No sooner did his body start making red blood cells again when an anal tumor ruptured and he was hospitalized again. Despite his health travails, Max has been a true gentleman. “He is personable, intelligent and kind,” we were told. “He is great with other dogs, cats and children.” Paws crossed for Max! RADAR paid $300 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Max.
