Hi there! I’m Maybelle, and I want to tell you a little bit about me. I’m a Shepherd mix somewhere around two years old. Way back on October 16th, I arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina when animal control brought me in after they found me wandering around in the area. I was a little scared to be in the shelter at first, but it didn’t take long for me to make some new friends. More than anything, I wanted someone to come along and save me so that I could start a new life. Sadly, that was taking longer than I’d hoped. It didn’t help that I was heartworm positive, which lessened my chances of being rescued or adopted.

Luckily for me, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking me! All I needed was for my costly heartworm treatment to be covered, and they would be able to take me. So on December 29th, Susan Blakeney with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue asked a group called RADAR for help, and they agreed! Unfortunately, my heartworms turned out to be worse than expected, so I had to have my treatments split. The first one was done on January 8th, and I completed them on April 9th.

Folks at the shelter described me as being a love bug and a staff favorite! I enjoy spending time with animals and humans, including children. My happy outlook on life and steady wagging tail are constant, and I tend to enjoy the simpler things in life–like snuggling and being a lap-dog! Click here for more photos of me.

RADAR paid all of Maybelle’s x-ray and heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $471.
