Merida

After starring in the 2012 Pixar movie “Brave” as a princess, Merida became the 11th official Disney Princess in 2013. What that has to do with this Merida is anyone’s guess! However, both Meridas do have the same hair color! Two to three years old and a Pit Bull mix, Merida was surrendered by her owners to animal control on April 26th. She was taken to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Not surprisingly, Merida tested positive for heartworms. At this shelter that meant that she was not available for adoption. A rescue commitment would be her only hope of getting out of the shelter alive.

On April 28th, Mary Lou Seymour and the The Heart Beat Goes On program began seeking a rescue for Merida. With no luck and time running out, Mary Lou made another urgent appeal on May 10th. Shelter Animals Advocates, the parent organization of The Heart Beat Goes On, was willing to take Merida if they could get some funding help for her heartworm treatment costs. Mary Lou requested RADAR’s help on May 12th, and we agreed!

Merida had her heartworm treatment on June 1st. December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with The Heart Beat Goes On, had this with to tell us about Merida: “She is a happy, super-friendly girl. She gets along well with others. Merida is relaxed. She’s a bit timid, but ever so sweet and gentle!” Click here to view more photos of Merida.

RADAR paid $300 towards Merida’s heartworm treatment costs.
