This Mickey is no mouse! Instead, Mickey is a two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix! On October 28th, he arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Mickey tested heartworm positive after his arrival, which really hurt his chances of being adopted or rescued. Mickey was placed on the shelter’s December 17th “put to sleep list”.
On December 12th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for RADAR’s help with Mickey. RADAR agreed to assist with Mickey’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take him. The next day, on December 13th, To Love a Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Mickey! He received his heartworm treatment on January 7th.
“Mickey would make a great addition to any family!” Susan said. “Mickey is just as cute as he could be with his short legs, solid frame, and soft eyes. He has a happy, waggy, wiggly style. Mickey would love to have a playful canine sibling as well. He’s a fun-loving young guy with loads of curb appeal!” Click here to see more photos of Mickey.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Mickey, totaling $287.
