Because Micky is a Boxer, he was named after boxer Micky Ward! And this Micky was in the fight of his life when he arrived as a stray at the Surry County Animal Control shelter in North Carolina on August 2nd. At least seven years old, Micky seemed very shy, tired and depressed. He could barely make himself get up to leave his kennel. Micky was very friendly, but he seemed like a sad old man who had nearly given up. With Micky heartworm positive and the shelter full, his life was in imminent danger.
On August 3rd, Mayberry 4 Paws in North Carolina, an organization that helps facilitate and find rescues for the at-risk dogs at this shelter, urgently reached out to us for help with Micky (who was originally named Doodles). We agreed to assist with his vetting costs so that Mayberry 4 Paws could pull him immediately and take him to the vet.
The vet determined that Micky was deaf and had a testicular tumor. On August 21st, Micky was transported to the Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue in North Carolina, and placed in a foster home. He was neutered and had the tumor removed on August 22nd. While the tumor was malignant, there is no indication that the cancer had spread.
Micky’s foster had this to share with us: “I can tell you this much, he is very, very shy. He is afraid of most anything other than the swimming pool! He seems to have been abused by a woman because he comes more out of his shell when he is with men. He is sweet, but he lets you know when he does not want to be touched.” To see more photos of Micky, click here.
RADAR paid $300 towards the tumor removal and neutering costs for Micky.
