Midnight, a five-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, made a huge transition in her life after she was found wandering the streets of South Carolina with her companion, a Chihuahua mix named Chase. On August 24th, Midnight and Chase were taken to the Fairfield County shelter in Winnsboro, South Carolina. Their owner came to claim them, but they were told a small fee would have to be paid for their rabies vaccination. Rather than pay the fee, their owner decided to leave them at the shelter, where Midnight and Chase might be euthanized.

Unfortunately, being abandoned wasn’t Midnight’s and Chase’s only problem; they were also heartworm positive. On August 28th, Marika Krausova with K-9 Lifesavers in Stafford, Virginia, contacted RADAR to see if we could assist in the cost of both Midnight’s and Chase’s heartworm treatment. We agreed, and the two of them started their treatment on October 18th.

At the rescue, it became clear that Midnight and Chase were very bonded to each other. “Chase is very protective of Midnight and likes to watch out for and guard his girl. We really hope these cuties can find a home together,” Marika said. Shortly after on October 29th, we received some great news: a young couple had agreed to adopt both Midnight and Chase, allowing them to stay together! Click here to view more photos of Midnight.

RADAR paid $350 towards Midnight’s heartworm treatment costs.
