It could be a millennium before you find a dog as lovable as Mila! She was surrendered to the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on October 17th by her owner. Mila’s owner discovered she was heartworm positive and could not afford to properly care for her any longer. She is a five-year-old Great Pyrenees mix. Everyone who met her instantly fell in love, but being heartworm positive in a small rural shelter would make finding a rescue or an adopter difficult.

This gentle giant was getting no rescue interest because of the cost of heartworm treatment, and this was putting her future at risk. Luckily, Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland reached out to RADAR for help on October 21st to assist with the cost of Mila’s heartworm treatment so that they could get her out of the shelter and into a warm, loving foster home. RADAR immediately agreed to assist with her heartworm treatment, to seal her rescue deal!

Puppy Paws arranged for a volunteer to drive Mila from South Carolina all the way to Maryland on October 25th so that she wouldn’t have to spend any more lonely nights in the cold, dark shelter! Mila had the first part of her heartworm treatment on December 8th.

Mila’s foster mom told us this: “We could start a TV series called ‘Everyone Loves Mila!’ She causes hearts to instantly go aflutter when anyone new meets her. She is as sweet as she can be, and her mischievous and sometimes strong-willed ways only add to her devastating charm. She loves food, people, food, affection, food, other dogs, and food. I did say food, right?” To see more photos of Mila, click here.

RADAR paid $318 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Mila.
