Animal control gave Millicent’s owner an ultimatum: surrender her or face going to jail. Fortunately for Millicent, who was chained outside and starving, the owner opted to surrender her. The approximately six-year-old Bully Breed mix was admitted to the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on January 29th. Not only was she emaciated, but she also had heartworms. The combination of being older, black, a Bully Breed mix and heartworm positive, certainly made Millicent at-risk at this small rural shelter.

On February 9th, Brandi Sowell, RADAR’s liaison with the Lee County Animal Shelter, asked for our help with Millicent. Home Free Animal Rescue in New Jersey would take her. The only obstacle was paying for her heartworm treatment. We agreed to assist which secured her rescue placement! She received his heartworm treatment on March 6th.

“She’s a great girl!” Brandi told us. “Millicent was one of my favorites at the shelter. She tested well with other dogs, and loves people!” The rescue had this to say about her in her foster home: “Millicent is the perfect dog! She loves to chill, she’s not a chewer, she can be left alone, she is house and crate trained. She loves, loves, loves people! She lives with two bigger dogs, a Chihuahua and two parrots!” To see more photos of Millicent, click here.

RADAR paid all $220 of the heartworm treatment costs for Millicent.
