Poor Miss Minnie! This two to three-year-old Labrador Retriever-Border Collie mix was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 7th when her owner went to jail. We don’t know if Minnie’s owner got the minimum or maximum sentence, but what we do know is that he had given Minnie minimal care. She had subsisted on a poor diet, had multiple litters, and lived on a concrete slab (resulting in sores). Minnie also had entropic eyelids which required surgery, and she was heartworm positive.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of the volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society, a rescue was found for Minnie! The New England Lab Rescue in Maine offered to take Minnie if her eye surgery and heartworm treatment costs could be covered.
RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, Susan Blakeney, reached out for our assistance. While their donors could cover Minnie’s eye surgery, RADAR’s help was needed for her heartworm treatment. We agreed to cover the cost of Minnie’s heartworm treatment, which was done on March 5th. Susan had this to tell us about Minnie, “She’s extremely low key and super, super gentle. What you will love about Minnie is that she is so sweet, forgiving, doting and wonderful nuzzler!” To view more photos of Minnie (taken by Susan), click here.
RADAR has paid all of Minnie’s $240 heartworm treatment bill.
