Mocha

Make no beans about it, Mocha had more than sufficient grounds to realize that bad things were brewing for her at the shelter. Approximately three years old and Pit Bull mix, Mocha Mom and her two young pups were surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on April 4th. The pups, Faylynn and Frank, were just as cute as could be, and Mocha Mom was a gentle and friendly lady. It would be a tough enough challenge to get the full family off to rescue, but Mocha testing heartworm positive made it next to impossible, and put her life on the line.

On April 19th, we received an urgent request from Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue. A miracle was in the works for Mocha and her family. Virginia Paws for Pits would take the entire family IF funding could be found for Mocha’s heartworm treatment. This request had RADAR written all over it. And, of course, we agreed! Mocha’s heartworm treatment took place on May 19th.

We received this report on her during her time at the shelter: “She doesn’t seem to let anything bother her. As she was walked around the shelter she wasn’t concerned about the dogs barking at her. She showed almost no interest in caged cats or in a yard cat who walked in front of her several times. She also passed the kid test. She seemed to have an ideally balanced personality. She enjoyed getting her tummy rubbed and back scratched!” To view more photos of Mocha, click here.

RADAR paid all of Mocha’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $240.
