There was a good reason for Molly to be down in the mouth: her dire need for dental care. But to get the long-overdue help she needed, we’d have to put our money where her mouth is! Molly, a Treeing Walker Coonhound over seven years old, was very pregnant when she was surrendered along with four other Hounds to the Pocahontas County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on May 22nd. The owner claimed to not even know Molly was pregnant! She gave birth to nine puppies in the shelter on May 27th, but unfortunately, only three survived. Molly seemed to have some difficulty caring for her newest batch of babies and it was evident from the shape she was in that she had many other litters throughout her miserable life.
De Anna Lynn and her Advocates for Shelter Animals of Pocahontas Co., WV (ASAP), requested RADAR’s assistance for Molly on July 14th. “Molly’s mouth is one of the worst the vet has ever seen,” De Anna told us. “Her breath is so foul and she had an abscess. She was nursing puppies so all we could do was give her some antibiotics as a temporary fix. It must have hurt her to care for her little ones with her mouth in the shape it was in. With her pups now weened, Molly is badly in need of dental treatment.” She sent photos of her mouth and teeth, and we agreed to cover the anticipated costly dental care. Molly had her dental work done on July 29th. It was extensive and costly, with a total of 27 teeth extracted!
“Molly gets along well with everyone,” De Anna said, “and always came to greet me as soon as I got through the gate when she had free-range privileges. She loved the attention and if I didn’t pay her what she deemed her due, she would let me know by lifting a front paw, hop a little, as if she were going to jump up on me, but she seemed to know that type of behavior is generally frowned upon, so she’d just fake me out by doing that until she got some more petting! She’s pretty calm, social, affectionate and just an all-around no-fuss kind of gal; I love her!” To see more photos of Molly, click here.
RADAR paid all $722 of the dental treatment costs, for Molly.

UPDATE! Molly has been adopted! Her new dad heard about Molly’s story and decided that he wanted to meet with Molly to see if she’d be a good fit with his pup, Frieda. A rescue volunteer drove Molly out to Indiana, and it turns out, Molly was a perfect match!
