For five long months Mona was marooned at the shelter, and it was taking its toll on this sweet girl. Shelter staff noticed that Mona was, understandably, getting depressed. Mona, a three-year-old Pit Bull mix, was surrendered by her owners to the Orangeburg County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on September 21st. Being heartworm positive proved to be a major obstacle to finding an adopter or rescue for Mona.
On February 29th, the shelter contacted RADAR for help with Mona. At long last there was interest in Mona, but help was needed for the cost of her heartworm treatment. We agreed to assist, and the Friends of Orangeburg County Animal Control organization committed to take Mona. Almost immediately Mona had an adopter! She began her heartworm treatment on March 7th.
The shelter told us this about Mona: “She is great with other dogs and cats, and she loves children. She didn’t deserve to be euthanized. Now Mona is happy and healthy! Her new family adores her and she is great with all of their doggies and horses! She lives on a huge farm and has most definitely found her furever home!” Click here to view more photos of Mona.
RADAR paid $250 towards Mona’s heartworm treatment costs.
