Lookie, Lookie! It’s Mookie! It was on August 26th that this five-year-old Jack Russell-Labrador Retriever mix arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia. Beyond that, his history is a mystery. Mookie, who was originally named Snookie at the shelter, was not only at risk as a black dog, but he was also older and vision impaired. After weeks passing with no adopter or rescue interest, he moved higher up on the shelter’s euthanasia list.
On October 1st, RADAR’s liaison with the shelter, Karol Gordon, requested our help for Mookie. We provided an offer to assist with Mookie’s vetting costs in an effort to attract rescue interest. At long last, on November 30th, Mutt Love Rescue in Virginia pulled Mookie! He had his initial vetting done on December 8th. The vet determined that Mookie is blind in his right eye, possibly from an old trauma or infections which caused scarring to his cornea. He was neutered on December 17th.
“Mookie is such a love!” Amanda Keerbs, his foster mom, told us. “He’s so friendly and wiggly. He is a joy to have in my home. I wasn’t sure how having six dogs would be, but things are going swimmingly! He is housebroken, and loves to play with my big anxious foster hound Seymour, which is a plus as this helps Seymour to burn off some energy. I feel privileged to help look after this little guy. Mookie is smart, sweet and funny! He will make someone an excellent pet.” To see more photos of Mookie, click here.
RADAR paid $200 towards the initial vetting and neutering costs for Mookie.
