Morticia

Despite their spooky appearances, Morticia and Gomez of The Addams Family share undeniable affection for each other, making them endearing as a pair. While there is nothing spooky to speak of with this Morticia, a five-year-old Lab mix, or her four- to five-year-old Lab mix companion, Gomez, they are just as bonded as their fictional counterparts! These peas in a pod arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 30th. They were brought in by a family who had taken them in as strays and cared for them for two months before bringing them to the shelter. Morticia and Gomez also had two pups in tow, both of whom were adopted locally. Sadly, being black dogs and testing heartworm positive made it harder for Morticia and Gomez to be rescued or adopted.

Peppertree Rescue in New York reached out to the shelter and expressed their interest in pulling both Morticia and Gomez, provided that their heartworm treatment was taken care of. On May 12th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted RADAR to see if we could assist with the cost of their treatment. We agreed to help, and the pair was safe! They both received their treatment on May 25th.

“Soul mates is the best way I can describe these two,” Susan told us. “They absolutely love each other and are truly bonded. Gomez is always making sure Morticia is close by and follows her wherever she goes. Morticia gives him kisses as if to make sure he knows he’s loved. They eat, drink and sleep together. Both love being brushed and exploring together.” Be sure to view more photos in Morticia’s gallery.

RADAR paid all of Morticia’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $383.
